Fast X (2023)

It’s all about the family! And if you go against the family then there will be hell to pay. But let’s just talk about the family, why is Vin Diesel’s son a completely different colour from him and his mom. I’m convinced that that child isn’t related to either of them. But let’s talk about Fast X, it was great, I loved it, because I went in there with the right expectations. If you expect it to be a shambles, actioned pack mess of explosions and car chases, then you’ll be pleased. Don’t do a Vin Diesel and think to yourself that this film should win best picture.

Look, we all know where this franchise started, it was about a bunch of criminals doing some street racing and that stealing car parts from trucks. That was it, now they all appear to be spies and hired mercenaries and they’ve done all that with no formal training. They now have Submarine chases, bombs blowing up the Vatican and John Cena sacrificing himself for Vin Diesel. Yes, that’s it, these are things that happened. Go from heartthrob Paul Walker playing an undercover cop, to Gal Gadot saving Charlize Theron and Michelle Rodriguez from an Antarctica Prison, yes, this is something that has happened.

But I don’t want to be all negative, there are some positives I want to mention. Let’s start with the standout performance from the film. Jason Momoa, he was spectacular. He was playing Dante Reyes, the son of another crime boss or something that Dominic Toretto killed a few movies back, I don’t remember. But the way that Momoa played Reyes was incredible, in an over the top, flamboyant, manner, Momoa was able to bring Reyes out as more of a Heath Ledger Joker villain rather than a serious, hell bent on justice villain and I think in a film where all the other actors are so damn serious, it was a pleasant surprise and relief. The ability to take a look at this film and realise you’re taking the piss is a great attribute to have, and Momoa seems to be the only one that can do that.

It was what it was, it was action, it was fun, don’t try and follow the story line too seriously and you’ll have a great time. I’m looking forward to part 2 of this film because I enjoyed it and found it fun. No, it won’t win any awards, but that still won’t stop the hordes of people sprint towards the theatre to check it out each time the studio spews out another one, and I’ll be standing there right next to them.
